c6678 sudden power down

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM10010, LM10011

hello, everybody,I came cross a question .so,I have several questions.

1,how much is the power consumption of c6678.

2.the full load current of the power is 15A, output voltage is 1V, The output power is 15w, the power can supply c6678?the full load current of the other power is 25A,  output voltage is 1V,this power can supply ?

3. the question that I came cross is that when c6678  operate full load, the two  powers both shut down suddenly.

I  do not know what happened?

  • Young Zhang,

The 6678 has a power consumption model on the device website. Look under "model": http://www.ti.com/product/tms320c6678

That should tell you how much power the device will be taking.

This is not clear for me to be able to answer. Neither of the two power supplies you mention would be sufficient to power the C6678 because different voltage rails are required. These is no description of how the full set of voltage supply rails will be delivered from either or both of these supplies.

Perhaps when you go over the material that Katherine mentioned, you will have some answers or can clarify this question.

Please see the section in the C6678 Data Manual titled "Power-Down Sequence" for the considerations for the situation you have described.

  •  Is the PMP7256 plan(TPS56121DQP+LM10010)appropriate for c6678?sombody find that when c6678 operate full load, the input voltage is 12V,the power sudden shut down.Idon't know what happened?

  • Yong Zhang,

Do not use the LM10010 for the C667x family. The correct device to use in its place is the LM10011 so you can set the initial startup voltage. Please replace the LM10010 with the LM10011 and make the necessary adjustments to the circuit board.

Is there a heat-sink on the C6678 and a fan blowing directly on it? These must be used unless you have done full thermal analysis for your final system. Even in the lab, these must be used.

  • when c6678 work  full load, how much the current  can achieve ?if circuit have a acurrent pulse?the pulse can beyond 20A or even 30 A?

  • Yong Zhang,

Please see the Power Consumption Model that Katherine referenced. Use the information in the accompanying application note to help you correctly fill in the expected processing load for your application. This effort will help your team achieve a great result by having an adequate power supply design.

Have you measured any current pulse on your board in excess of 20A on this core voltage rail? This is not likely to be seen.

When you have the time, please address the questions I have asked in earlier posts on this thread.

    RandyP

  • I want to know ISL8225m can support smartflex ?ISL8225m can supply c6678?

  • Yong Zhang,

I will not be able to help you with a device such as you mentioned above.

I will not be able to help you if you are unable to answer my questions and if you are unable to use the Power Consumption Spreadsheet.

Please work with your team to address the questions above. Your project's success will improve with the additional help and the answers to these questions.

    Regards,
    RandyP
