OMAP-L137 usable without evalKit??

Dear all,

I would like to know, if there is a (serious) chance to get an OMAP-L137 working without the EValKit.

The reason for this question is the following:

I just want to get a feeling for the OMAP-L137 series , since it might be a perfect solution for a future project. Of course, the costs of such an evalKit are too high for just "playing around" ;-)So i would try to build a quite rudimentary OMAP application. But if i understood the facts presented on the homepage, it is only possible to develop code for the Device over the CCStudio, which (also the eval version) runs only with the dedicated hardware(eval board?)

So: Is there a possibility to program the device for testing small applicatin programs if i don´t have the eval board (and instead of that an own-build board)? [:)]

Aside from development using Code Composer Studio, if you are wanting to run Linux on the OMAP-L137, there is a MontaVista Pro 5.0.0 based Linux Support Package (Kernel 2.6.18) in an Early Adopter phase right now.

I would say anything is possible, but the likelihood of success will probably depend on the complexity of the small application program you are trying to run and that your eventual target hardware is structured exactly (or very similar) to the EVM.

If you wanting to just create a DSP application, then using something like the C64x+ simulator would also work. Again, these ideas are dependent on what you want to accomplish.

This is a very general question. As Brandon suggested, it is certainly possible and the complexity will depend on you end goal. Are you just programming ARM side, DSP side, or both? How closely will your board resemble our EVM? Do you have to have hardware or would simulator included in CCS do?...

Also, please note that the starter kit is only $395 (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tmdxoskl137bet.html); I am not an expert board designer, but imagine this cost will be pretty hard to beat by designing your own board. Also, this price includes all the software and tools to help you get started.
