Angstrom Linux/OpenEmbedded for L137 Eval Board

For the TI support folks:

Is there any plan to provide L137 support for the Angstrom Linux distribution and Open Embedded (OE) build environment?

I am currently using Angstrom/OE for the omap3evm and it works well. Other OMAP boards are also supported. Just curious if L137 support is in the works?

Thanks,

  • Joe,

OMAP35x has an ARM CortexA8 (more powerful then ther ARM9 on the OMAP L1).  Because of this, OMAP35x is better suited to run more processing-intensive applications such as Angstrom and hence the reason someone took the time to port Angstrom to this platform.

This is not to say is cannot be done on OMAP L1's ARM 9, but it would probrably be much slower.  I do not know of anyone working on this port at the moment... but just thought I put down some thoughts that may explain why you have not (and may not) see this in OMAPL1.

  • Keep in mind that Angstrom is a open source community project so your best bet as to Angstrom running on a L137 would be to talk to them and see. http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/contact

  • Thanks for the info. I e-mailed TI and they also indicate any L137 OE/Angstrom support would need to come from the community. TI only intends to provide MontaVista Linux for the board. Unfortunately, the Virginia Tech open source SCA software (OSSIE) I want to run on the L137 is tied to OE.....
