Connecting to DSP on OMAP3503 EVM

In order to use CCS with an OMAP3525 or OMAP3530, which includes the DSP, you first need to configure CCS through the cc_setup.exe utility to use an OMAP3530 board.  Since you have a Spectrum Digital emulator referenced, I will use it as the example.

Secondly, yes, when OMAP3530 comes out of reset, the DSP is still held in reset and the Cortex A8 controls both the clock and the reset to the DSP.  Therefore, the CortexA8 will need to perform some action to enable the DSP.  This is effectively what the GEL script can do for you in the early stages of development and debug.

CC_SETUP

1. Remove any board you currently have defined in your system (ie. the stuff that is in the left pane under "My System").
2. Under the Factory Boards tab, find the "OMAP3530 XDS510USB EMULATOR" and click "<< Add"
3. File -> Save and File -> Exit

Using this board setup, it should assign the <CC_INSTALL_DIR>\cc\gel\omap3430_cortexA.gel file.

Once you invoke CCS, the Parallel Debug Manager will come up.
You need to open the CCS window and connect to the CortexA8.

When you are connected to the CortexA8, you can use GEL -> IVA2200_Startup -> IVA22_GEM_startup() to enable the DSP.  At that point, you should be able to connect to the DSP.

It says OMAP3503 just has ARM+peripherals. Then it would be futile attempt to connect to DSP from ARM on OMAP3503 EVM.

OMAP3503 EVM is more commonly referred to as OMAP35x EVM as shown in the following link: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tmdxevm3503.html

This is because the EVM from Mistral (as well as probrably other EVMs) really contains a OMAP 3530 part (superset of OMAP 35x family of parts);  you are correct that if you are planning on buying 3503, then you should evaluate the EVM without using the graphics and DSP hardware.
