DM365_USB_VBus

In our video conferencing development project we use 2No's DM365. We are planning to use USB bus for communicating between them. We need a clarification - what to do with USB_VBUS pin in both DM365s. Since we are connecting the USB on-board, we do not require a VBUS supply. In this case how to connect these pins in both devices. (Plz note that one DM365 will be USB Host and the second will be a USB Device VelDM365

  • On the DM365 that is acting as USB Host the DRVVBUS line should be connected to a charge pump/5V??mA supply.  The DRVVBUS on the DM365 acting as the device can be appropriately terminated.  Pl. refer to the DM365 EVM schematics.

  • In the above mentioned application, ONLY ONE (on-board) USB device will be connected to the Host-DM365. And Bus power is not required in the design anywhere.

So are u suggesting that we need to ALWAYS give support for USB Bus Power, when we use DM365 in host mode. (i.e even when the only device connected to it is not expecting this power).

If that is the case, we need to add a 5V regulator just for connecting these pins from the host DM365. (DRVVBUS and USB_VBUS)

  • USB Bus power has to be provided even if only one device is on the bus and it is self powered.  That is the reason I mentioned you would need to connect the DRVVBUS to a charge pump circuitry on the Host DM365 and terminate it on the Device DM365.  I would recommend you to use the 365 EVM layout as much as possible w.r.t controlling DRVVBUS pin or consult with the appropriate (TI) EVM expert.
