PCIe host detection issue of C6678

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6678

Hi, Sir or Madam:

I have an issue in the TI DSP TMS320C6678 design;

We have referred to the TI DSP EVM C6678 schematic to reference code to design a single DSP card. When the C6678 DSP card in PCIe host boot mode also IPC Mother board’s BIOS is setup in PCIe Gen1 mode. The DSP card can found by every power cycle in Gen 1 also still can find the DSP card in Gen2 mode (if M/B only restart by soft-start also BIOS setup to Gen2 but power no shut down).

But the strange thing is the DSP card cannot find if BIOS setup in Gen 2 mode when power cycle again.

Could you tell me what is possible reason? Does it is hardware or software issue? Also whether is related the reset timing or sequence control of FPGA?

Thank you very much.

  • Can you let us know:

What is PG version of 6678? In your DSP card, do you run IBL code (like the our EVM with an EEPROM)? In you mother board (PCIE RC) BIOS, do you have selection of fast boot or normal boot? If you do, will normal boot + GEN2 BIOS can emuerate 6678?

    Regards, Eric

  • Hi, Sir:

    Reply questions as follow:

    1. What is PG version of 6678?

[Eric] The Die PG code is YB20-31ZEJP9. Also EEPROM code version is eeprom50 and eeprom51.

    2. In your DSP card, do you run IBL code (like the our EVM with an EEPROM)?

[Eric] Yes, we have run IBL code to try from EEPROM to create PCIe host function but it is failure at PCIe host detection. In addition, we switch the bootup configuration by DIP switch to PCI host mode but the DSP only can found in IPC M/B Gen 1 mode.

    3. In your mother board (PCIE RC) BIOS, do you have selection of fast boot or normal boot?

[Eric] Sorry, there is not selection function in Our IPC M/B.

    4. If you do, will normal boot + GEN2 BIOS can emuerate 6678?

[Eric] No, I cannot find the 6678.

I would like ask you help confirm the TI’ EVM hardware and software can boot-up at Gen2 PCIe host mode also no issue. Is correct?

Thank you very much for your great support.

  • It is correct that TI’ 6678 EVM hardware and software can boot-up at Gen2 PCIe EP mode with no issue.
