Alternative display on the AM335x Starter Kit

Hi Guys,

I am working on the AM335x Starter kit under android and have now been able to build a standard Android app for the device. My first problem was a broken micro usb cable. 

The application I am working on requires me to be using a different display than the stock one. The display I have at hand is a 5" display called: "KD50G21-40NT-A1".  Datasheet here. 

I got some help in this thread, which led me to just connect the new display with this result. The image is corrupted, but the rightmost part (approx 10 vertical lines) actually show the background from the start screen. Its animated with the live wallpaper.

So my question is this how would I go about modding the Android build on the starter kit to drive this display instead?

I have read about people editing the build.prop file, but I'm unsure how to proceed?

I hope you can help point me in a direction that can make me use this display?

    It seems it was a faulty display. I replaced the unit and it booted using the new screen and it looks like this.

    The resolution is the same as the original display 480x272, so I'm still open for pointers on how to fix that as the resolution is 800*480 in the new display.
