How can I write some ARM code on L138 LCDK board?

Hi,

I want to write some ARM code on a LCDK board. I would like to know what is the easiest way to begin with. Is it using an emulator connect to the board without OS? Or boot ARM part with Linux, then using an emulator?

I know and have installed StarterWare, but I do not find any detailed procedure on how to download these code to the LCDK board. I have tried connecting XDS200 to LCDK for two days. It is still not reliable. Sometimes it works while other times it gets warning when connecting XDS200. I should disable C674x core in the target configuration file, or not? I have used the two .gel file with LCDK.

I need some information on the beginning steps on using LCDK. Could you tell me that?

Thanks,

Yes, you can write ARM code on LCDK board through CCS, flash the arm executable into the LCDK board and run it.

The easiest way to begin with is to first run the ARM sample program ( like LED blink ) which already exist for LCDK board.

If you use CCS for developing ARM code, you require an emulator to flash the executable image into Target board and that emulator will facilitate the real-time debugging of the source code running on the target.

Yes, you can connect the emulator without OS on board.  For connecting Emulator and establishing a connection between Host PC ( Linux/Windows ) and target, Linux is not needed to be on Target. Hope this clarify your question.

You can flash the executables into the LCDK board in two ways. One is through CCS and the other is through serial flash utility. http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Serial_Boot_and_Flash_Loading_Utility_for_OMAP-L138

The detailed procedure on running sample code of ARM and DSP binaries are given in the following link.
