Hi,

I want to know if I can interface 18-bit TFT LCD with AM3354? and how?

Also if I use 18-bit interface then I want to use remaining data lines LCD_DATA[16:23] as MMC1 interface whose data lines are multiplexed with these lines. Is it possible?

Hi Pankti,

The way to interface an 18-bit LCD is to set the LCD controller in 24-bit (RGB-888) mode and connect the LCD display to the highest 6 bits of each color. The free LCD_DATA pins can be pinmuxed to another mode, but take care to check the AM335X Errata Usage Note 3.1.1 - these will be LCD_DATA[23:18].

Hi Biser,

I have the same question for AM437x. I guess the answer for that would remain the same, that is configuring the mode to RGB-888 and connecting the MSB 6 bits.

Although some of my research hinted that dithering might help to improve the quality of the image. Is that true for 18 bit modes? Do the drivers in SDK 7 support this?

The AM437X TRM Rev. A Figure 13-11 and bits 9-8 (TFT_DATA_LINES) in DISPC_CTRL register show that 18-bit mode is supported by the DSS. I cannot say about the Linux driver, I'm not a SW expert.
