Thanks for your post.

Basically, the PRU Software Development Package (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/sprc940.html) contains a number of PRU example codes that interact with the DSP. The DSP is also used to load the example code onto the PRU.  CCS projects are included for each example. If you start experimenting the examples and walkthrough the code, you would get an better idea to configure clocks & to achieve desired bitrates.

Note: both the Windows and Linux versions at this link make use of the DSP in the example code.

I believe the support for software CAN on OMAPL138 is provided by mistral with their CAN expansion module. I am providing you a link to the module.
