Profinet IRT

Hi,

First things first, Profinet-RT typically supports cyclic data transfers at a 1 to 10mSec rate, while Profinet-IRT can support a sub-millisecond rate.

Earlier TI annouced support for Profinet IRT. But the current release (V01.01.00.03 22/nov/2013) of SYSBIOSSDK-IND-AM335X only supports Profinet RT.

Are you developing still a IRT solution, or is the Molex Profinet RT stack the final result of your development effort?

Thanks,

Bob

  • Hello Bob,

Thanks for your post. You are correct that the SDK release done in Nov/13 supports Profinet-RT on the PRU using the Molex stack. Profinet-IRT is in development now and is not part of the SDK yet but it'll be in the near future.

    Hope that clarifies,

Pl dont hesitate to contact me at gurrapu@ti.com if you have additional questions. I'd also be interested to know you application details so we can better support you! Have a great day!

    thanks.

  • Hi Srik,

    Thanks for your quick answer.

  • Bob,

although this is not part of the current PN certification we can run the AM335x Profinet RT solution with Molex stack at cycles rates as low as 250us. Profinet RT and such low cycle time still do fullfill many (or most) applicaton requirements as we got told by customers. Still we are aware that IRT and future PN v2.3 is a must for many future projects and we are actively working on this.

Achieving official Profinet RT certification (PN v2.2) in first pass last year was a major milestone for the TI Profinet roadmap. This helped a lot to gain experience with the test and validation process for Profinet and paves the way for our next steps.

    Regards,

  • Thanks Frank,

I only  need a rate a little slower than 400usec, so I'll keep trying to see what I can do with the current stack.

    Thanks again,

    Bob
