Looking for a flexible turbo code solution

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6455, TMS320C6416, TMS320C6747

I'm currently working on the early stage of a project which requires turbo encoding/decoding.

We've already assessed that we'll need a DSP and we're currently looking to use the TMS320C674.

I've started looking for a turbo solution but that research didn't yield the results I was hoping for.

So far the closest thing to a solution I've found would be to switch DSPs to one of the TMS320C64 series with Turbo Decoder Coprocessor as we don't have the ressources or the knowledge to do the decoding part.

I was wondering if anyone had other interesting solutions to my problem.

Thanks in advance,

Simon Gingras

  • I took a quick look around and I only see one third party offering a generic DSP Turbo coding solution with Vocal Technologies.

I would suspect that the Turbo co processor (TCP) on a C64x device (TMS320C6416 or TMS320C6455) would be able to do this the most efficiently, however I do not work with that peripheral much as it is targeted at a relative few big telecommunications customers who usually have their own local support.

  • I've contacted Vocal Technologies and I'm waiting for an answer on their part but it does look promising.

I've also looked at the DSPs you suggested but they're both at much higher clockrates and cost alot more than the TMS320C6747.

They also lack floating point operations which is required for some parts of the project.

    Thanks for your time,
