C5510GPH DVDD Pins

Expert 4565 points

I have a customer doing a failure analysis of an old C5510GPH. They noticed a fractured solder join on a DVDD pin. They wanted to know if the DVDD pins of the device are tied together either on the silicon or inside of the package or if by having one disconnected DVDD pin could cause a subsystem of a chip to shut down.

My thought is that the chip wouldn't be designed with a single point of failure on a supply pin but I would greatly appreciate it if someone can verify this thought. Thanks!

  • Confirmed with PE that in the GPH package every pad is single bonded to a leadframe in the package, thus the norm is for the DVDD plane to be shorted at the substrate and die level and thus the assumption of a single pin disconnected should not power down the domain is correct.

    Regards.
