How to get StarterWare examples to work?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3358

I am having a difficult time to get any StarterWare examples to compile and load for the skAM335x board. I am using CCSv5.5 and compiler tools 5.0.6.  I just downloaded StarterWare 02_00_01_01 and picked a simple example to try. (rtcClock).

I imported the rtcClock project into CCSv5 and tried the "Build project". I got an error "Unresolved symbol Entry".  That external is defined in the linker .cmd- file, so why is Entry undefined?  The cmd-file comments relate to a TMS470.  Is this the proper linker file for the skAM335x?

I next tried the latest instructions in the StarterWare User Guide to create a new project.  After picking the proper (I hope) device selections and a linker file AM3358.cmd, I saw a different set of folders and files in the Project Explorer window than those from the imported project.  How do I get any of the StarterWare examples to compile and load?

Please help.  I am confused.

  • BillP,

I guess you are not importing the dependency libraries. Please refer http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335X_StarterWare_Environment_Setup#Building_the_CCS_Project for which all libraries you need to import before compiling the application.

  • Baskaran,

Nope.  That's not it.  It is the linker command file that has the problem.  Aren't these examples supposed to be complete and workable for the three platforms in StarterWare?  My guess is that they were developed on older versions of CCS, compiler tools, Windows 7, different platforms, etc.  The information in the link you provided is too high level to be helpful for troubleshooting, but that should not be necessary.  The examples should work.

  • Bill,

The StarterWare examples have been verified with the specified versions of dependencies, i.e. CCS, tools etc. as mentioned in the "Getting Started Guide": http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/StarterWare_Getting_Started_02.00.XX.XX#Host_platform_Requirements

Obviously, we could not verify a release with versions of software or tools that were released after the StarterWare release. If you face the issues even with the dependency versions recommended by StarterWare for this release, we can look into the specifics and help you.
