Static power of two EVMC6678 are different

Hi, Dear All

I have a question about the static power consumption of EVMC6678 board. I am using the GPIO to USB cable and power monitor software to measure the power consumption of the DSP chip. But I find out that the static (idling) power consumption of two EVM board are differed by 1 watt. Even they are from the same revision (Rev. 3B) and placed in the same environment. Is this a common phenomenon ?

Thanks.

  • Fan,

1W difference at idle from device to device would not be unexpected do to differences in process.

If you take a look at the C6678 Power Spreadsheet, which gives you the maximum power consumption you'll observe on the device, you'll see that at 30C would give a baseline power consumption of 4.4W. Note that 30C is just an estimate of the die temp but I'll assume it's at least a little bit higher than room temp - this would probably be conservative even for the fan+heatsink.

The baseline is made up of clocking and leakage power consumption.  The leakage power consumption can vary greatly at a given temperature by processes.  Nominal devices will have a much leakage power consumption than the devices that are slightly hotter in the process.

    Best Regards,
