VPSS module insertion problem in DM8148 EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCF8575, TVP7002

HI ,

I am using DM8148 EVM. My PSP version is 04.04.00.02. I have followed the following link for vpss

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_PSP_VPSS_Video_Driver_User_Guide

After flashing  the new kernel image and all the driver modules in the SD card, when I ran it I am getting the gollowing error. The full logs are attached

VPSS_FVID2: M3 firmware version 0x1000145 is newer, driver may not work properly.
omap_i2c omap_i2c.3: controller timed out

BUG: Your driver calls ioremap() on system memory.  This leads
to architecturally unpredictable behaviour on ARMv6+, and ioremap()
will fail in the next kernel release.  Please fix your driver

  • Hello,

Could you try to change the scrip:

    load-hd-firmware.sh

    modprobe vpss sbufaddr=0xBFB00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1

    with insmod<path to the module> ...

    Best Regards,

    Margarita

  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I tried with "modprobe vpss sbufaddr=0xBFB00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=1",

But the problem is if you give i2c_mode=1, then while the vps_probe() is done, then in the vps_capt_init() function, it will not execute the ti814x_pcf8575_init() as shown below.

            if (cpu_is_ti814x() && (!def_i2cmode))
                    ti814x_pcf8575_init();

And if ti814x_pcf8575_init() is not done, then it will give problem while inserting ti81xxvin.ko module.

    Thanks,

    Debasish

  • Hello,

It seems that you are trying to load dm814x_hdvpss_v4l2.xem3 firmware , is that correct?

You could use, in this case:

    load-hd-v4l2-firmware.sh

but before that you should turn off the graphics planes and load-hd-firmware.sh as well.

Please you could check v4l2 script for how to load module (firmware_loader 2 /usr/share/ti/ti-media-controller-utils/dm814x_hdvpss_v4l2.xem3 start -i2c 0
            modprobe vpss sbufaddr=0xBFB00000 mode=hdmi:1080p-60 i2c_mode=0).

There is restriction like tvp7002.ko must be loaded before ti81xxvin.ko.

    Best Regards,

    Margarita

  • Hi,

I have used the load-hd-v4l2-firmware.sh script and it is working fine. Thanks for the help.

I have one more doubt, what is the difference between dm814x_hdvpss_v4l2.xem3 and dm814x_hdvpss.xem3 firmware?

Does the hdvpss has source code for generating  dm814x_hdvpss_v4l2.xem3?

    Thanks,

    Debasish

    dm814x_hdvpss.xem3:
       - This is use for OpenMax application.  So user will use their application is OpenMax interface.
            - Display driver is controlled by A8 with OpenMax from user.  Does not support V4L2.
            - Capture driver is controlled by A8 with OpenMax from user.  Does not support V4L2.
       - This can NOT be used to use I2C from A8 during HDVPSS driver is working.
       - The feature is same as dm814x_hdvpss_v4l2_xem3 without I2C control.

If you have the overlay package(which is under NDA) you could build dm814x_hdvpss_v4l2.xem3 firmware.
