C5509A connection error from CCS 3.1

What is the states of EMU1 & EMU0 pins when TRST is low? Do you have external pullup on these pins?

Yes, I have the external pullup on these pins. I used the JTAG circuit for other board with VC5510, and it is OK to connect to target from CCS 3.1.

With this VC5509A board, I got error as describled.

ave you tried to connect without the ECG board? It is very hard for me to help you since this is your own degigned board.

After I upgrade CCS to Version 5.0, I got the following message when I try to connect C5509A target on our board:

Error 0x80000244/-1143
Fatal Error during: Register, Initialization, OCS,
The memory at 0x00000000 continually indicated it was 'not ready'
All memory operations currently in progress were aborted in order
to regain control of the processor.
This is considered a catastrophic event, but the debugger should
still be able to access memory and CPU registers.
System state has been altered.  It is strongly advised
that the processor should be reset before resuming execution,

The schematics look fine to me. Are you aware of this document for C5509A board and system design considerations? Section 6 talks about JTAG. Also, do you have GEL file? How far apart is JTAG header to device? Shouild be less than 6 inches. Also would suggest to scope the EMU0 & EMU1 signals to confirm the rise time is less than 10us. Normally a 4.7kohm pullup resistor is used. Also to confirm there is no noise on these signals.

The distance from JTAG header to device is less than 2.5 inches. And I use the diagnostics tool in SDConfigEx.exe to test JTAG connection with option "Scan Verify" and test loops of 500. When I press "Start" button, and I got following message "Performed 369 test loops with 1 errors".

Also, I confirm that there is no noise on EMU0/EMU1 signals, and we changed pullup resistors to 4.7Kohm.

So what is problem here? Maybe silicon error of chip? We bought these C5509A from Digikey vendor with code 4A-22AFCCW

Mr Ha,

You can try different boards; switch out devices and different JTAG emulators.Failing the connection test indicated to me a nonp-device related issue.

If I use the diagnostic tool of SDConfigEx.exe to test hardware connection, so how many pass loops is good to be connected to device?

Because if I run diagnostic tool with "Scan Partern" option (0x55555555), it is OK for up to 1000 test loops.

I have never uesed this JTAG emulator. You might want to refer to Spectrum Digital for assistant.

After testing carefully, I found that after power-up, if I press reset button and hold it for 15 seconds, I can connect from CCS to target (C5509A). Can you explain this for me?
