AM335X Starter Kit Purchase

Hello,

I'm thinking if it really is profitable to get a am335x starter kit. Is it worth the money or is there problems with hardware? Is the Linux SDK glitchy or very easy to use? How the capabilities of the SDK? Does all the software (qt, wifi, GStream, etc...) work nicely together and are easy to program? Is it a great start for a beginner who's program hungry for linux?

Hi Andrew,

If you are a beginner who just wants to explore embedded Linux, in my opinion the Beaglebone Black will be a cheaper option. It also has the advantage of having a lot of preipherals exported on board headers if you want to design your own harware around the AM335X. Hello Biser,

New as I am, I like the compacked setup of this starters kit. The embedded wifi/BT, the LCD, the ethernet ports, and the usb. I've seen and read about the BBB quite a bit of times now.

I'm just wondering how to program and get thing like wifi, LCD, and qt to work together? Does this SDK work really well?

Hi Carlton,

Yes, from your description of what you need the Starter Kit is a better option. As for information, there is a huge wiki portal for the AM335X, software, etc. For the Starter Kit you can start here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Starter_Kit.

As for software, the EZSDK is developed and tested by TI. The current release is quite stable. For any issues you encounter you can post your questions here - we try to address every question posted on the forum.
