Starterware is dead and should not be used any longer?

Genius 5820 points

Since nobody feels responsible to answer the question from thread in http://e2e.ti.com/support/embedded/starterware/f/790/t/316923.aspx I'll ask this question here loud and in public:

Is Starterware dead and no longer supported and shouldn't be used any longer or is it still alive?

The support here in this board is quite poor also for more or less simple questions so it was not only my feeling there is something wrong with Starterware so that it is no recommendation to use it any longer - and to not to use TI Sitara too.

Any official statements?

  • Hans,

The TI Sitara product line, and TI starterware packages are actively supported, and technical queries for both software and hardware will be addressed on the forums.

We do try to provide fast responses and seek to continuously improve closure rates, which is an ongoing process.

The e2e post you refer to was answered this morning, by referencing another e2e post on the same topic that has had active discussion.

    Hi Tony,

Yes, the starterware C6748 USB bulk device throughput was very slow.

There was a detailed discussion already done in the forum ( refer the link below) and the throughput was improved by enabling the CPPI DMA as a mode of transfer in device bulk starterware code and the through put is increased to around 12-13MB/sec.

Please have a look at the above link and revert if there are any more questions.

  • Since the support situation for Starterware is quite poor I'll ask this in a different way: I've are two questions open where TI-support promised to answer one soon. This is some month ago now. So is there a possibility to get (paid) support for such serious problems? Or should we better drop the Sitara platform and choose a completely different hardware to not to be left alone in the dark?
