C6657 SGMII connection

Hi,

I have a trouble about SGMII serdes connection between C6657 and PHY.

The status register, SGMII_SERDES_STS of SYNC is 1, but LINK is 0. Can you think of any reason that this phenomenon is to appear?

Best regards,

Kenshoiw

  • Hi Kenshoiw,

The SYNC bit indicates that the SerDes link appears to be connected. The LINK will not be set until the SGMII auto-negotiation is complete. Generally the PHY will operate as the SGMII auto-negotiation master and the C6657 will be the slave. The PHY will initiate the auto-negotiation process and the C6657 will acknowledge and allow the link state to be set. If the PHY is not configured to act as a master or if both the C6657 and the PHY are operating as masters, you may not get the link bit set.

    Regards, Bill
