After flashing u-boot into board, You can load kernel from network through tftp command and ablt to run Linux OS then you can mount your fileystem through NFS or any media (SD/MMC, USB, NAND,SPI)

How do I send applications to the target Linux OS on the SD card without an emulator?

If SD/MMC/USB had a filesystem , then You can connect your SD card on Linux Host machine and copy your applications into SD/MMC/USB.

If you had a filesystem on NAND flash which is resided on board then you can copy your apps through network (tftp,scp, etc.,)

That page you linked only has info about Linux and I have a windows host. How do I load the kernel from windows? I want to know how to compile apps for linux target and then deploy them from a windows host.

Is there a simulator I can use to debug my applications until i buy an emulator. I don't see one in the listing.

For building u-boot and linux, then you need linux system (you can install in windows itself through virtual box setup)

To debug your c application & kernel image in linux, use remote debugging.

Through serial port, you can connect the target to your windows host and using "teraterm", you can load the kernel through "nfs/tftp" ( having filesystem and kernel image at linux host).

There is one more option; In windows machine, install "tftpd" daemon on your windows host and try loading the kernel.
