Differences between Line In and Microphone

Hi

1) What are the differences between Line In and microphone? Can I use both of them simultaneously?

2) I want to connect some piezoelectric buzzers to the inputs of DSK5510, the maximum output voltage of piezoelectrics are 0.5 Volt, are there any differences between the case that I connect it to Line In and the case that I connect it to Mic?

Thanks

  • When a microphone is plugged into the connector, both inputs are connected to the microphone so it is monaural. When a stereo plug is used, the siganl will be stereo. The codec samples analog signals on the Line In or Microphone inputs and converts them into digital data to be processed by the DSP.  If used together, the signals will be combined. Thus should not be used simultaneously.

The input connector used are the same. The key is what jack is used to connect to the left and right inputs in your case.

    Hope this help.

  • Hello,

I am also trying to connect two microphones to DSK5510. Did you get success to connect two microphone? If yes what settings you did to make it work?

I connected microphone individually to mic and line input and it is working. But when I connect microphone to both input, I received signal on line output from both  from microphones.

If you got solution to your problem please help me.

    Thanks,

    Rajendra
