DM365 OSD Functionality

I have a customer new to DM365 with a basic question, hope you can help!:

I can’t get a clear understanding of the OSD functionality on the DM365… If we are configured for a 720p (x1280) display, are the various OSD windows available for use also at that resolution?  We are particularly interested in creating a bitmapped OSD with the ability to display a overlayed character at any region of the currently displayed video.

  • Kevin,

Looking at the data-sheet, it would appear that all windows (VID0, VID1, OSD0 and OSD1) can support up to 2048x2048 resolutions.  That said, the VPBE UG does mention a couple of constraints when using vertical resizer filter (horizontal dimension limited to 1024) and horizontal expansion feature (limits on overlapping OSD and VID windows on left edge).  There is also a small note that VID1 may need to be turned off in certain HD scenerio cases.  Aside from resolution, another thing to keep in mind is the refresh rate and how that plays into DDR2 bandwith consumption.  Hope this helps.
