Auto restart on Kernel Panic

Hi,

1) You can pass "panic=< sec > " in u-boot bootargs.

2) You can modify the kernel panic time in "echo 20 > /sys/proc/kernel/panic" kernel option.

"echo 20 > /sys/proc/kernel/panic"

"echo 20 > /sys/proc/kernel/panic_on_oops"

ex:

setenv bootargs mem=32M console=ttyS2,115200n8 ip=dhcp nfsroot=10.100.1.97:/usr/local/filesystem_omapl138 root=/dev/nfs rw rootwait panic=10

Its hard to implement and you will endup with kernel source code changes before panic occurs, but Its possible.

I can make the kernel changes, here is what I am thinking:

1. Define a environment variable (or some specific location in the NAND)
2. Whenever the kernel panic occur, set this variable from panic() in “linux/kernel/panic.c”
3. Check for the environment variable in u-boot, if its set Clear it and take required action.

Yes, You are right. This is  what I have planned.

But here the problem/code stuff is how you are going to write/update (for panic) variable and reading back at u-boot section.

In general, We can define any u-boot env variable and change it at linux area through "fw_setenv" and fw_printenv"

but If any panic occurs then you need to do "fw_setenv" stuff (with care of ECC) before panic() function.
