OMAP5

Hello,

We are evaluating processors for our application and the OMAP5 seems interesting. We have some questions concerning camera interface and openCL capability:

1. Is it really possible to connect 3 CSI-2 cameras to the board?

2. What camera models are supported? Resolutions? Frame rates? Are such Camera Modules with drivers available for the OMAP5 EVM?

3. Is it (practically) possible to use openCL with the PowerVR GPU?

If not, do you know any SoC providing those features?

Kind regards,

Damian

  • Hi Damian,

Omap5 have 3 CSI2 interfaces, but the evm board  allow to be connected only two ( J2 have CSI_A interface and J8 uses CSI_B and CSI_C for a dual camera interface). If you can manage to mux 3rd clock lane  with muxing you can achieve your goal of using all 3 interfaces, but I recommend designing your own board, with much more clearer design.

For more information about  characteristics, check the device TRM. The device supports most of the MIPI csi compliant camera modules.

Yes it is possible to use openCL ( http://e2e.ti.com/support/omap/f/885/p/282945/992350.aspx#992350)

  • Hi Boyko,

Thank you very much for your answer!

Is there a camera extension board for the OMAP5 EVM available? Like this one for the OMAP4:

    http://www.e-consystems.com/OMAP4-MIPI-Camera-Board.asp.

Will the driver provided for the board above be compatible with the OMAP5 EVM?

    Best regards,

    Damian

  • J2 (OMAP5EVM) is standart connector for MIPI cameras. Here is a comparison with J17(pandaboard) for destination signals.

With this in mind you can modify the driver  if necessary for your custom camera driver.
