Hello,

We are busy for developing are own AM3352 @ 600Mhz processor board with 512Mb DRAM and NAND of eMMC flash. Now we have seen that the BeagleBone (black) has many linux distros like: Debian, Ubuntu, Angstrom.

I would like to know if it is possible to use one of those distros, because we have a maximum speed of 600Mhz as processor. Or we could recompiled them?

We also gonna connect an audio codec chip : AIC3106 to it because we need sound. The sound will be an text to speech engine of Acapela.

If any suggestions it would be nice.

Hi Patrick,

This forum supports only the TI distributed EZSDK, which is based on Arago. Current kernel version is 3.2 (new 3.12 version coming soon).

For other Linux versions please turn to the community support at http://beagleboard.org/Community/Forums.

The EZSDK based on the Arago kernel may also be ok. So long the AIC3106 is supported and if it is possible to used the tts engine of Acapela.

Is it correct that the GCC version now is Linearo 4.7? Does this linux version support USB cd-rom drives?

Patrick, the GCC cross-compiler version included in the latest SDK 06.00.00.00 is crosstool-NG linaro-1.13.1-4.7-2013.03-20130313 - Linaro GCC 2013.03. Please check the AM335x SDK 06.00.00.00 Release Notes: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Sitara_SDK_6.00.00_Release_Notes

The USB CD-ROM should be a mass storage class device, so it should be supported.

I have not used CD-ROM drives in a while, but I believe you need to re-configure your kernel to support them. I am not sure I have the order correctly, but you would 'make menuconfig' select device drivers, select scsi support, then under there you would select CD-ROM support. Then back out to the top level menu and select file systems. From there select cd-rom/dvd file systems and then select iso9660. When you re-build the kernel you should have CD-ROM support.

Thanks all for you reply.

At this moment I was busy with the EZSDK and to configure it, but here I have some question about it. How can configure the max CPU speed, becuase I gonna use the AM3352 @ 600Mhz?

What kind of WiFi support will be available in the kernel, can I use USB wifi or SDIO wifi?

Also I would like to know if any suspend/resume is present, this is needed in our application.

You can see the CPU speed in userspace. Also if you rusing 2.1 silicon u-boot will automatically use the fastest speed that the AM335x supports. I'm not sure what is the max speed for AM3352 but if its 600 MHz then that is the default speed u-boot and the kernel will use.

I haven't used a USB wifi dongle but I believe I remember people using it in the past. Also the SDK supports Wilink 6 which uses SDIO for wifi.

Suspend and Resume is supported.

Thanks for the reply, this was very helpfull. Nice that SDIO is supported for Wifi.

What I saw is that the AM3352 can be bought with 300/600/800/1000MHz., so purpose you have a processor with the 300MHz option, will the software then know that this maximum speed, or must this being done in compiling the kernel.

It depends, we have two packages:

ZCZ goes from 300MHz to 1GHz

ZCE goes from 300MHz to 600MHz

As long as your using 2.1 silicon U-boot and the Kernel with automatically configure itself to run at the speeds that the chip supports.
