OMAP-L137 Load frimware into EEPROM

I'm developing on OMAP-L137 EVM and CCS5

PC(run CCS5) connect EVM with USB.

CCS5 could compile and load my software into EVM. But it doesn't load into SPI flash.

When EVM is powered off and run, EVM can't run my software. I have to use CCS5 to load my software again.

How to load my software into SPI flash? Could it be operated through CCS5??

Hi Hakeen,

There is a serial flashing utility ( SFH ) to flash the binary into SPI flash without using CCS.

This method will retain the loaded image in flash even after EVM power off.

Using serial port, connect the target into your PC and do the serial port configuration as 8bit, No parity, Baudrate 115200 through Tera term / Hyperterminal in windows or minicom in Linux.

In the PC, you shall run the sfh utility and provide the arguments such as flash type, target type & the binary image and then flash the image into the specified memory flash.

Could I load frimware into EEPROM through JTAG?

When I production my board, utilizing UART will increase components.

Hi,

What is your boot mode in field use case?

that means what is your end boot mode for field purpose ?

If it is SPI flash or NAND flash,

1) Create one bootable SD card and insert it into fresh board.

2) Stop at u-boot prombt.

3) Write one u-boot boot script for reading the bootloader images and kernel images from SD and write into NAND flash or SPI flash.

4) Remove the SD card then fresh board will boot from NAND / SPI flash what you programmed.

I have not tried the above mentioned idea,

Please just try it and let me know,

Note:

EEPROM boot mode support is not available for OMAPL13x

I want to boot from SPI Flash.

Based on document, OMAP-L137 EVM support it.

As per the PSP release, We do not have EEPROM boot support is not available.

Yes, You are right!

As OMAPL13x bootloader document, It should support I2C/SPI EEPROM boot mode (for ARM and DSP app).

Right now, We do not have EEPROM flasher support but we do support for SPI flash.

Through SPI flash writer, You can flash images through CCS.

This should be the SPI_Flash_Writer of OMAP_L137 ? Right?

Base on above link, it should load firmware into SPI0 EEPROM.

I'm confused. Could SPI0 EEPROM work ? Or only SPI0 Flash work ?

The above link for flashing the boot images on SPI0/1 flash through serial flash utility.

If you want to load boot images or apps on SPI0/1 flash through CCS then refer the below tools.
