DSP for real-time audio effects processing

Hi there,

I am looking for an affordable DSP in price to manufacture a small device capable of real-time audio effects processing through a microphone. Is there anybody who can recommend me which DSP could be the most interesting to program and use for this application? I have seen the series TMS320C6000 might be the ones, but I am a bit lost in the different models, and maybe I am missing some other. It would also be very interesting if it contains a good built-in ADC/DAC to facilitate the design.

The effects I plan to program in the DSP are the basic array: delays, filters, distortion, modulation, flanger/phaser, pitch shifter, and even a vocoder.

Any suggestions/ideas? Thanks in advance!!!

    Hi Joan,

    All our DSPs are capable of processing audio. Look for the audio ports (McBSP, McASP) that can interface easily with an external codec for C6000. The C55x family have devices with integrated ADCs.

    I encorage you to use our parametric search and the selection tool.

    You need to decide if you need floating or fixed point, what frequency, what peripherals you need, your budget, etc...

    Here is a summary of the DSP families:

    C5000

    C5000 contains: High-Performance, Low-Power, Fixed-Point TMS320C55™ Digital Signal Processors with many peripherals integrated on chip that are optimized for embedded and communications applications. Also, an ultra low power, low cost , Ultra-thin packaging C54x fixed point dsp platform.

     

    C6000

    Similarly, C6000 contains even more subgroups. C67xx and C67x+ parts contain floating-point cores (and are often somewhat low power consumption). C64xx and C64x+ are the very high performance fixed-point parts. There is also the C674x family that has a hybrid core equivalent to C67x+ plus a C64x+. DM64x and DM64xx are high-performance Digital Media (video) processors. Note that some of the DM devices are DSP-only, some are DSP + ARM, and some are ARM-only.
