CCS 5.4 on Windows 8 for the TMS320C6416

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6416T, TMS320C6416

Hi!

I try a new target configuration file for the TMS320C 6416T in CCS 5.4 on Window 8. I choose the

XDS510USB as Emulator, but I get an emulator initialization error. Can anyone tell me what

to choose for the device and connection?

Thanks!

Vimala

  • Hi,

Can you please attach your screen shot of the issue,

Are you facing error while "Test connection" or while debugging any projects?

If you are debugging any project then ensure that you selected correct processor name as C64xx in properties of the project and Check your gel init script correctly used in advanced option.

  • Hello!

Thank you for the quick reply!

Somehow my PrintScreen is not working.

I am using Windows 8, CCS 5.4 and the TMS320C6416T DSK.

I am trying to run a simple program that prints "Hello!".

When I run it on the Simulator it works. When I choose the 6416 processor, then I run into difficulties.

I configured a new Target Configuration as follows:

Connection: Spectrum Digital XDS510USB Emulator (this is what TI Wiki pages suggest)

Board or Device: DSK6416 (and also tried the TMS320C6416)

I save the configuration and click on Test Connection. Here is what I get:

    ----------------------------

    [Start]

    Execute the command:

    %ccs_base%/emulation/drivers/sdjtag.exe -f %boarddatafile% -v -X reset -X scantest

    [Result]

    ** BoardFilePath: C:\Users\vimala\AppData\Local\.TI\693494126\0\0\BrdDat\testBoard.dat
    ** Resetting Emulator
         ERROR -- XDS510-USB Emulator not connected/enumerated

    [End]

    ---------------------------

Am I choosing the right connection, board?

What is the difference between DSK6416 and TMS320C6416?

Do I need to install any driver for the emulator?

Thanking you in advance for your help.

    Best regards,

    Vimala

  • Hi,

What is the difference between DSK6416 and TMS320C6416?

    Same.

    This is because,

In CCS, If you are using DSK6416 board then choose "DSKC6416" option directly.

Some customers will take DSKC6416 as reference board then they will use for custom board that time they will choose as "TMS320C6416"

TMS320C6416 is the exact processor name and DSK6416 is the board name released by TI.

DSK 6416 is a DSP Starter Kit by TI, The kit has TMS320C6416 fixed point digital signal processor, a member of C6000 series of processors.

    initialization error

    What about initiation error?

Do I need to install any driver for the emulator?

Yes, You need to install drivers for XDS510USB emulator and check in hardware manager option in windows OS to check whether the COMx port has been created or not.

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Installing_Spectrum_Digital_XDS510USB_drivers

I save the configuration and click on Test Connection. Here is what I get:

If COMx port has been detected for DS510USB emulator then you can select your "hello" project and select "Debug as" option to debug or run your project..

  • Hello!

Thank you very much for quick reply!

The link to the XDS410USB drivers is for CCS3.3.

I have CCS 5.4. Does it matter? How/where do I find if the drivers have been downloaded or not?

    Thanking you in advance,

     Vimala

  • Hi,

You can check those drivers from your CCS installation.

    <CCS instyall path> \ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\windows\xds100_drivers

  • Hello,

    Thank you very much!

I am trying to install the drivers from the given path. My computer does not recognize that

there is a new hardware. I look in Device Manager:

Under SD USB Based Debug Tools --> Spectrum Digital TMS320C6416 DSK. I select Update Driver,

but it says the Driver is already installed!

I try to Debug and I get the error: C64xx_0: Error initializing emulator

    Please help!

    Thanking you in advance,

    Vimala

It seems the XDS510 USB driver has been installed already.

Have you ever got succeed communication between CCS and emulator?

Did you get any error while installing CCS?

  • Hello!

    Thank your for your reply!

I have a connection to the emulator on board when I use CCS v3 on Windows XP.

I have followed all the links you suggested and updated CCS to v5.5. No errors during

the installation. The driver seems to be there when I look at Device Manager.

However in the installation directory (C:\ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\windows\)

    I see only the following directories: xds2xx_drivers, xds100_drivers, xds560_drivers.

However, I need the xds510. Does that mean that CCS5.4 does not support the

    xds510 emulator anymore?

    Thanking you in advance,

    Vimala

  • Hi,

Eventually you got a solution from CCS forum and We will support for device specific issues if any,

Surely You will get good response from our e2e forum.
