Startware Ethernet and USB support

Hi,

I am preparing a new project that requires 3 Ethernet ports. I found TI's Sitara could be a good choice, only that I need to add the third Ethernet port over the USB. The function of the project is simple, just moving Ethernet packets (raw packet) around the 3 ports like a switch.

It looks like the Starterware is also a good choice for this, but I have a few questions before I move on:

1. Does the Starterware support both 1000M Ethernet ports on the chip?

2. How complete is the USB support in Starterware? Does the Starterware support Ethernet over USB device class?

3. Further, does the Starterware provide the driver (or code frame) for one of the popular Ethernet over USB dangle?

  • Hi Tianlei,

    1. Does the StarterWare support both 1000M Ethernet ports on the chip?

Ans: Yes, Gigabit ports on AM335x EVM SK has been tested and they will work simultaneously.

    2.  How complete is the USB support in Starterware? Does the Starterware support Ethernet over USB device class?

Ans :USB stack in StarterWare has limited class support. It does not support hubs  or CDC (ECM).

    3. Further, does the Starterware provide the driver (or code frame) for one of the popular Ethernet over USB dangle?

Ans: No, StarterWare does not provide drivers for USB dongles. You would need to modify the existing code to work with the dongles.
