External Flash Memory Support

Hello,

I am wondering if developing drivers for NAND flash, eMMC (v4.3 and later which don't support SPI), SD (v4.0 AHB...), etc. is on the radar for TI-RTOS. Could TI support provide some input on this?

Somewhat unrelated, but I'm also wondering if the ADC peripheral driver (from within the RTOS) will be coming out soon.

Which device are you asking about? We have a SD card driver via SPI for some of our microcontrollers. NAND isn't typically used with these.

Specifically I'm thinking of the Tiva family. I am aware of the SDSPI driver, but eMMC would be nice too.

Thanks for the clarification. eMMC is something we are hoping to do but it won't happen until the end of 2014 at the earliest under current plans.

NIck, may I jump in here because I have a related query.

I need to store large amounts of data at relatively low power and low speed. SDXC cards are the FLASH card format with the necessary data capacity, but I see that they use ex-FAT as a file system and it appears that restricts OS vendors from supporting them. My core question is whether TI-RTOS can or will support SDXC cards and whether this might involve license fees.

We have no plans to support xfat ourselves and I would be surprised if this gets to be a high priority. We are mostly focused on MCU applications and very few of these are likely to need xfat/sdxc levels of storage.

We have just such an application, we will be using the lowest power MCU we can get away with, and will store 5TB of data on each deployment. The workaround appears to be to reformat ex-FAT drives to FAT32, then TI-RTOS looks like a good candidate
