Boot procedure in TMS320C5515

The bootloader feature is for loading an image without using JTAG. Second of all, C5515 supports loading image from many peripherals other than EMIF.

I have only used TMS320C5515EVM and used programmer.out to load the binary file. Then I understand that with JTAG and an emulator i can load the image file directly to the processor nor any external memory is it right?

Since the on-chip memory will reset its contents on reset, thus the bootloader function is to load program from external flash memory to on-chip memory to execute.

Direct answer to your question is no, the .out file is not recorded. After every power cycle, you have to download the .out file again via JTAG. Follow bootloader apps note to load program from external memory.

"Note: Programming SPI is a bit tricky. SPI cannot be the first peripheral to access after a power up on C5515 EVM. Access either NOR or NAND before SPI. Boot image size is limited to 32kBytes max for this revision."

The reason for that is about the hardware of the EVM or is it caused by the TMS320C5515 DSP?

No. Both HWs are fine. The fix will be incooperated in the next revision release of programmer/CSL.
