4460 eth1 does not work if we connect to SPI1.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 4460

We have created an adapter card for our Variscite 4460 processor SOM/Board which uses SPI1.  But when assembled, Eth1 does not work.  (During booting, after a 2 minute time out, there is a message that the OS is unable to configure Eth1).  How is this possible?  SPI1 is connected only to Eth0 according to block diagrams of the 4460 processor SOM and according to schematics of the Variscite 4460 Board.

This is very troubling!

What other I2C, SPI and UART processor ports might already be "in use" by the OS?  What might happen if we assume we can reconfigure these ports to GPIO.  Will critical features like USB or Touch Screen would stop working?  Probably with out notice?

-thanks

  • Hi,

What kernel version are you using. Perhaps you should check your kernel driver and see indeed which interfaces are in use and how are they to be muxed.

    Regards,

    Boyko

  • Thank you for responding Boyko.  We are using:

    uname -a: Linux 3.4.0-1489-omap4 #27 SMP PREEMPT Sun Apr 7 13:27:10 IDT 2013 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

    /etc/debian_version: wheezy/sid

If you could be so kind to refer me to a document so that I understand how an OMAP 4460's hardware is connected to the operating system.  Generic Linux documents appear to reference files that do not appear on the target.

    -thanks
