ONFI Nand Flash with Da Vinci

Hi Concern,

I need to understand about ONFI Nand Flash interfaced used in Da Vinci for processor bootup

Do we need to have E2PROM while interfacing a non ONFI Nand Flash with the processor and can we avoid using the E2PROM with ONFI based Nand Flash?

How the E2PROM will be used in non ONFI based Nand Flash?

Are the ONFI based Nand Flash backward compatible? i.e. Is ONFI 2.2 Nand Flash compatible with ONFI 1.0 Nand Flash.

Regards,

Shah Kunal

  • Kunal,

I don't think EEPROM is going to help in NAND bootup. You can use EEPROM to store the first stage boot loader and bootup from the EEPROM and then use NAND to boot up the remaining stages. I'm not sure about backward compatibility of ONFI spec. I believe it should be.
