Hi,

Is v4l2 supported in RDK package, i.e. can linux use the driver without building any usecase ? If not - why is it documented in the Linux PSP ?
Is it possible to use it for simple testing of board video in-> video out loopback as described in v4l2 PDP document ?

I followed the thread, but the questions seems to be yet open.

If HW & PSP linux support this capability (according to PSP user guide), does not it mean that it is supported if we are not using the RDK SW layer above linux ?

Hello,

I am not familiar with IPNC and DVR RDK.

In EZSDK we have v4l2 support (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_PSP_VIDEO_CAPTURE_Driver_User_Guide).

The M3 firmware used to support v4l2 is different from the M3 firmware used in DVRRDK. If you load the v4l2 m3 firmware and don't load the DVRRDK related firmware file v4l2 should work. We have never tested DVRRDK kernel with v4l2 so I don't know if you will face any new issues and hence it is recommended not to use v4l2 when using DVRRDK. The dvrrdk captureLink supports a number of additional features not present in v4l2 capture which are required by RDK customers so using v4l2 is not an option for RDK customers .

I am trying to understand if I can use v4l2 for basic board testing, or is it better to use the DVRRDK package.

Do you know what are the limitations of using v4l2 ?

Is it capable of capturing video input from VIP0 only , or can it be used for video loopback vin0/1 -> vout0/1

I dont know enough abou v4l2 support to know if it is possible to use it for board bringup.Using DVRRDK is better. All parameters supported by capture driver are exposed as API configuration at captureLink level.

Hi raneliya,

The decision depends on your requirements, in case of Ridgerun we just support V4L2 based solutions since a multimedia framework like gstreamer can be used just with the EZSDK/Ridgerun SDK. You can see a list of the funny things that we can do with gstreamer:
