Getting started with the TMS320VC5505 ezDSP USB Stick...looking for libraries

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320VC5505

I'm trying to getting started with the TMS320VC5505 ezDSP USB Stick but I'm very new and I'm having some problems in enabling CCS v4 to use CSL and in finding libraries and make them work correctly. In particular I need help on setting the enviroment to use the CSL because the guide in the document available with the download refers to older versions of the software. Can anybody help me?Thank you

  • Hi Andrea,

installing the CSL so that you can use it is more or less a five-step process.

1.: Unzip your CSL-Container to some place where you want your library to reside

2.: Click on "Import Projects" in CCS. Import the example projects from your directory in which you have your CSL. Do not copy these projects to your workspace (there is this check-box in the import window - leave it unchecked). Leave them where they are.

3.: You will need to specify a new target configuration. These example projects are set up for use with a EVM board, whereas you have the eZdsp board. For this, click on view->target configuration. You will see two "folders": Projects and User-defined. Click on User-defined, where you will see the target configuration for your board (assuming you have already build a target configuration for your board). This is a ccxml-file. Right-click and select "link file to project" and select an example project from the CSL, maybe CSL_RTC_example_out.

4.: Compile this example project (CSL_RTC_example_out). You will first need to set this as your active project.

5.: If this project compiled and linked fine, you have set up your CSL correctly. You can include the library now in your projects. For this, you will need to have #include <csl_xyz.h> instructions in your source code. Furthermore, you need to specify the location of these header files under project->build-properties->iC5500-Compiler->nclude-options, where you need to add the directory of your csl-header-files. Also, you need to specify the location of your csl-lib-file under project->build-properties->C5500-Linker->File-Search-Path.

There is only limited documentation available. This reference guide spru433j.pdf is not for your CSL (it's for an older chip). You will need to rely on this doxygen-created documentation, which comes with the CSL. It's not bad, it's not good. Just don't use spru433j.pdf, as this describes a different CSL.

Hope that helps. If not, please describe which problems you have, exactly.
