Trying to understand what Linux OMAP 4 questions I can ask here in the ti.com forum...

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 4460

Hi,

I have a Variscite OMAP 4460 which is proving very difficult to use.  I can not get the the SPI1 feature to output any data.  I have verified that the OMAP 4460 lines are electrically good by monitoring the SPI data and control lines while switching the outputs using the omapconf command and the GPIO feature of the OMAP 4460.

I believe this all hinges on getting a /dev/spi device of some type to show up.   I can install the "spidev" module with out any reported errors.  But no new devices let alone any spi devices show up in the /dev directory.

Variscite answers are rather short - but from what I gather - they are saying that the SPI software feature was created at ti.com.  Or, at the very least, was part of the Linux kernel.

So I would like to talk about this here to see if any have been able to get the SPI working on a TI OMAP 4460 processor under Linux.

(I already have another thread where I am asking specifically about which OMAP 4460 registers need to be written to to configure the SPI feature.  I mean to keep that in a separate discussion as manipulating the OMAP registers directly does not involve Linux.  I have been at this for days and the direct approach is a back up in case we find that the Linux kernel is not setup to handle the OMAP's SPI hardware.)

Software particulars:
$ uname -a
Linux  3.4.0-1489-omap4 #27 SMP PREEMPT Sun Apr 7 13:27:10 IDT 2013 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

Any help would be appreciated.
