DO-178B level-D certifiable?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS, TMS320C6748

Hi.

I’m going to use TMS320C6748 DSP for our new board design that calculates FFT with various vibration signals. I’m familiar with TI’s CCS and SYSBIOS but what concerns me is DO-178B certification.

Because the target is a kind of avionic system, we need to get DO-178B certification. Fortunately only LEVEL-D is required for our software, and very few requirements needed to be satisfied for LEVEL-D case.

I found some posting that TI replied “SYSBIOS is not DO-178B certified”.
But for my case, it is only LEVEL-D.

Do you think SYSBIOS is DO-178B level-D certifiable?

Thank you in advance.

  • In DO-178B only the end application can be certified. So the OS is certified as part of the application. So the issue is really what artifacts (e.g. design docs, test suites, etc.) you need to certify any particular piece of software. We don't provide much in the way of artifacts, so much of the certification work needs to be done by the customer. We have had customers use DSP/BIOS (a predecessor product to TI-RTOS) in DO-178B level-B applications. They licensed the source code (now provided free in TI-RTOS) and did the necessary work themselves. However, level D will be much easier. I am not an expert in what's required, but would imagine that you could easily use TI-RTOS in such an application. I would recommend you research what the requirements are for certification of the application and any use of third-party software components in level-D. If you identify anything that you would need from us, we can confirm if we can provide it.
