USB powered Beaglebone Black

I'm using Beaglebone black for last few days. I used USB mini cable to power-up the board not the AC charger. BBB comes with Angstrom TI image on eMMC that works fine in that. Now i prepared my own bootloader,kernel and rfs that given by TI for linux then i put with micro SD card to bring up the board and also delete the MLO file from eMMC flash. so it's only possible to load from micro SD card.

Whenever i bootup the board, At first time it bring-up and load the linux OS upto rootfs command prompt from SD card but unfortunately sometimes it hung at the uboot command prompt and also print some spurious data. why it happens???

I'm using USB powered not AC charger, it makes any problem???

Hi Michael,

How often does this issue appear?

Did you try the <sdk_dir>/bin/create-sdcard.sh script to create your SD card using the pre-built binaries provided inside the SDK?

It happens very often...

I tried create-sdcard.sh script to create SD card with my custom images.While i connect a charger with BBB, it starts booting and user LEDs were blinking.

I thing it happens when i connect the beaglebone black with UART debug cable(TTL-232R-3V3) towards PC means it stuck at uboot command prompt and also showing some junk characters.(not exactly)

Any suggestions????

Do I understand correctly that this doesn't happen when the UART debug cable isn't plugged in?

Not exactly Miroslav. It happens even i doesn't connect the cable to the BBB UART pins. Is there any problem with minicom or debug cable?? i tried GTKterm also but no use.

For 1/3 of time it happens, when i started minicom it continuously prints junk character.

Now i tell my procedure, Actually what i'm following now:

STEP1: I took my UART-USB debug cable, connect the USB Type-A to my PC, then go to /dev/ folder to view my port file is detected or not (eg: /dev/ttyUSB0)

STEP2: Then i open minicom via my terminal it shows the exact baudrate, port etc and also followed by typing some junk characters continiously.

STEP3: Futher, To connect my other end of the debug cable to the BBB debug pins.

STEP4: Then i give power to BBB via AC charger(5V,2A). Now it starts the board to boot the OS via SD card.It starts booting and stops at uboot command prompt then hungs out and also continiously typing some junk characters.

STEP5: I press a reset button means again it happens.ie) stops at uboot and type some junk characters continiously, doesn't even respond to user interrupt. i set a boot_delay to 5 seconds but no use.

Note: it doesn't happens everytime. sometimes it behaves correctly

I would definitely check the UART debug cable. Make a RX/TX short connection and try to type some characters to see if they are going to be echoed back.
