C6678 Prolonged Resets

I have a customer that may have prototypes that are not using the DSP, and are
defaulting it to reset. Would you be able to quantify the short term
reliability impact of holding the DSP in reset? For instance, would it
still work if we held it in reset for one month? How about just an
extreme of one year?

Hi Kelsey,

The requirements for prolonged resets are clearly stated in section 7.3.1.3 of the C6678 data manual. Holding the DSP in reset for longer than an hour is not supported. Holding the device in reset for a month or year will effect the reliability of the device. If the customer is building a board with a C6678 that is not currently in use, I suggested that they include the minimum software necessary to place the device into a hibernation state once the reset has been released. The device may stay in hibernation for prolonged periods of time without effecting long term reliability.

At what amount of time held in reset will the C6678 no longer properly operate?

Hi Jim,

We don't quantify an exact time until the part fails. The design team provided guidance concerning the result of prolonged resets. They identified the possibility of a degradation in performance based on that condition.

If the DSP only had its 1.8v I/O voltage applied for an extended period (no core voltage), is a prolonged reset not a reliability concern?

Hi James,

As defined by the power sequencing, the delay between DVDD18 and the CVDD core voltage is a maximum of 100ms. This shouldn't violate the prolonged reset limits listed in the data manual.
