MSP430F5529 Launchpad Evaluation Kit, CCstudio Assembly Language Support

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, SYSBIOS

Dear Sir:

I recently purchased the MSP430F5529 Launchpad Evaluation Kit and I am currently evaluating this product using Code Composer Studio Version 6.

I prefer to program in assembly language and I would like to know if TI CC6, or any 3rd party software vendor, offers any assembly language support that is compatible with the MSP430F5529.  Can you tell me if this alternative is available?

I have done a quick search on the internet  with regard to this topic and I have noticed that when references are made with respect to the MSP430 - TI RTOS and assembly language there appears to be files that are not associated with TI's software offerings.

I may have overlooked some of TI's software offerings as I have just become acquainted with this evaluation kit and I have only utilized the standard software offerings.  My apologies if I have overlooked the obvious.   However, I have found no direct references to an assembly language software development environment from the literature I have been introduced to.

I would like to know if anyone can point me to "open source" software or a TI affiliated software vendor's webpage where I can download their software and configure the MSP430F5529 for assembly language level programming.      Can anyone help me with this effort?

  • Hi,

Yes, TI supports assembly language with its own codegen tools.

I didn't quite get your statement " I have noticed that when references are made with respect to the MSP430 - TI RTOS and assembly language there appears to be files that are not associated with TI's software offerings."

TI - RTOS is part of TI's software offerings.  If you look at SYSBIOS which is "open source", you will find a few source files that are assembly files.  This comes with TI - RTOS and it is also a standalone product.

I've attached here the user's guide which contains the instruction set...see chapter 6.

  • Dear Judah;

Thank you for your reply.  To answer your question, when I wrote:

" I have noticed that when references are made with respect to the MSP430 - TI RTOS and assembly language there appears to be files that are not associated with TI's software offerings."

I was referring to webpages that I saw whereby other user's have made TI's hardware functional through assembly language, however, these individuals had utilized files that did not appear to be associated with TI's software offerings.    Please interpret this "passage" as an "aside" for now, as it does not appear to be relevant any longer because you are directing me to a working solution that I know to be "stable" programming information source (a programming platform utilized by TI).

I would like to thank you for pointing me to this information source.   I am going to re-evaluate this information source.  I "flipped" through the book, but, I didn't read the book in its entirety yet.   I was hoping that there was a web page devoted to assembly language programming with the MSP430 product line.    Hopefully, a link from this information source will lead me to an assembler language full development web page link with examples and, hopefully, a community support web page.   This is what I was hoping to find at this forum.

I will keep you posted on how this search develops and, again, I would like to thank you the information.   It was appreciated.

        Sincere Regards,

        Michael

  • To All Interested Readers:

I found the book that is relevant for assembly language programming using the MSP430 product line.

This book is what you will need to get started.

I am creating a link for others, so that they may be able quickly become introduced to the TI Assembly Language environment.    I do not know if this book is the complete solution.   I am still evaluating it.

          Here is the link:
