DM8148 kernel crash: Unable to mount root fs via NFS... . PHY - Marvell Alaska 88E1512

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCF8575, TPS65910, PMP, TVP5158

Hello firends.
Have an problem with DM8148 on custom board and NFS.
Kernel loaded via TFTP strated to work, ip assigned and crashed on mount fs on NFS.
See below console log.
On board:
PHY - Marvell Alaska 88E1512.
CPU - DM8148 (PG3.0)
Used multichannel framework from ud-works, version 3.5

Wants remark that with this NFS and boot parameters Mistral DM8148 EVM works fine.

My boot parameters:
bootfile='uImage512'
serverip='10.0.0.9'
ipaddr='10.0.0.11'
rootdelay='15'
bootcmd='tftp 0x81000000 uImage512;bootm 0x81000000'
bootargs='mem=128M ddr_mem=512M console=ttyO0,115200n8 root=/dev/nfs rw rootfstype=jffs2 nfsroot=10.0.0.9:/home/marat/workdir/SmartCore/trunk/target/rfs_814x ip=10.0.0.11:10.0.0.9:10.0.0.1:255.255.255.0::eth0:off vram=20M notifyk.vpssm3_sva=0xbfd00000'

Here console prints:

link up on port 0, speed 1000, full duplex

I would be very glad for any suggestions.

  • Are you intentionally setting rootfstype=jffs2 ? Why are you doing this for nfs mount ? Check if you are able to mount the nfs share from uboot prompt. This will confirm there is no network connectivity or nfs share permission issue.

  • Hello Badri,
    thanX alot for your reply.
    I removed the jffs type and unfortunatelly have same a problem as in listed below log.
    From u-boot NFS isn't accessible, when type nfs from u-boot promt:
    "link up on port 0, speed 1000, full duplex
    Using cpsw device
    File transfer via NFS from server 10.0.0.9; our IP address is 10.0.0.11
    Filename 'uImage512/'.
    Load address: 0x81000000
    Loading: *** ERROR: Cannot mount
    T T T T T... "

    But when type tftp from u-boot promt, kernel loaded via TFTP without any problem:
    "Opgal_SCP#tftp
    link up on port 0, speed 1000, full duplex
    Using cpsw device
    TFTP from server 10.0.0.9; our IP address is 10.0.0.11

    NFS exports defined in file /etc/exports as:
    "/home/marat/workdir/SmartCore/trunk/target/rfs_814x *(rw,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,sync)"

    Iw want add that this NFS works fine on Mistral EVM.

    Please, tell me, I'm understood correctly: network devices (such EMAC and ethernet PHY) on nfs mount stage from kernel, already serviced by kernel driver and not keeps setting from u-boot?

  • Hi Badri,

    I am working on Mistral DM8148 EVM(Rev D) , trying to boot file system from NFS, not able to succeed.

    Help me out to resolve this problem.

    Please find the logs below.

  • Hi Kiran,

    Are you using EZSDK or DVR RDK or IPNC RDK?

    See if the below e2e thread will be in help:

    http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/716/p/321330/1120624.aspx#1120624

  • Hi Pavel,

    I am using EZSDK and i followed the procedure to boot from SD Card and NFS for file system.

    when i am giving dhcp in uboot,it's not getting response from dhcp server

    Log:

    TI8148_EVM#dhcp
    link up on port 0, speed 100, full duplex
    BOOTP broadcast 1
    BOOTP broadcast 2
    BOOTP broadcast 3

    BOOTP broadcast 5
    BOOTP broadcast 6
    BOOTP broadcast 7
    BOOTP broadcast 8
    BOOTP broadcast 9
    BOOTP broadcast 10

    Retry count exceeded; starting again
    link up on port 0, speed 100, full duplex

    Instead of dhcp, using static ip addr.Is there any switch setting to load file system using NFS?

    My boot parameters,

    setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.168
    setenv ethaddr 00:18:32:61:57:18
    ping 192.168.1.15
    mmc rescan 0
    fatload mmc 0 0x80009000 uImage
    setenv autoload no
    setenv bootargs 'console=ttyO0,115200n8 root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.1.15:/home/coreel/targetfs,nolock rw mem=364M@0x80000000 mem=320M@0x9FC00000 vmalloc=500M notifyk.vpssm3_sva=0xBF900000 ip=192.168.1.168:192.168.1.15:192.168.1.1:255.255.255.0::eth0:off noinitrd'
    bootm 0x80009000

    It is giving same kernel panic error.

    Please help me out to resolve this issue.

    Thanks and regards,

    Kiran S Patil

    What is the version of the EZSDK you are using? Is it EZSDK 5.05.02.00?

    Do you have something (switch, hub, router) between the DM8148 EVM and your desktop PC?

    Regards,
    Pavel

  • Kiran,

    Regarding the static ip approach, make sure you are aligned with the below wiki:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_PSP_User_Guide#Boot_over_Network_.28Ethernet.29_2

    Best regards,
    Pavel

  • Hi Pavel,

    Sorry for delayed response.

    I am able to bring up the board with NFS, in my PC DHCP server has not configured properly.

    Thanks a lot.

    Thanks,
