DM8168 h.264 decoding problem

Hi,

Summary of the Long story;

1) I am using DVR RDK from UDWorks version 03.50.00.08

2) I am using VSYS_USECASE_MULTICHN_PROGRESSIVE_VCAP_VDIS_VENC_VDEC usecase

3) I can encode the captured video, save to file and decode it by using MCFW APIs. Everythink is fine.

4) Then I try to record a video stream from H.264 IP Camera via RTSP, RTP. I succeeded on that issue. Then I change the file format from rtp stream to H.264 NALUs.(In this case it is VID_CH00.h264)

5) I am using the decode+display demo for producing the header file (VID_CH00.h264.hdr).

6) I can play my recoding stream via H264Vİsa software. There are some errors but it can decode it.

Current Problem:

When I first run the program I am seeing a green flickering screen on the mosaic channel. If I stop the program

and run again 8168 can decode and play the video.

Do you have any idea about the problem. I try to summarize the problem to avoid complexity. If you need further info, I will supply with pleasure. Hi,

From the logs shared for green flickering, decoder is returning following errors frequently,which indicates stream has errors as mentioned in your post.

0x1409 : IH264VDEC_ERR_NOSLICE , XDM_INSUFFICIENTDATA

0x2000a00 : XDM_APPLIEDCONCEALMENT, XDM_CORRUPTEDDATA, IH264VDEC_ERR_MISSINGSLICE

During Rerun of the demo, is same stream + hdr as the first run used? If same stream and hdr are used the behavior of decoder should be similar.

Please try decoding the stream using decode display demo of RDK and check if you face any issues while decoding the stream.

Yes. I am using the same stream and hdr. And I blieve this is the clue. Because it is working on the second run.

I think my stream is problematic in some manner but I cannot figure out. In all of these rtp/rtsp staff I am using my own codes. Maybe I am missing some packets(actually I debugged with Wireshark, everythink looks OK.)

I am going to try the RDK demo as you said, and try some validated rtp/rtsp libraries (live555,ffmpeg,..). Do you have any suggestion about the rtp/rtsp libraries?

Pls attach the elementary h264 stream so that it can be checked on our setup. Can you confirm even H264 VISA software is reporting errors and errors are reported even on second run on target when you didn't see the green flash ?

For green flash issue try disabling tiler output for decoder and check if you still see the issue. (decPrm.DecLink_ChCreateParams.tilerEnable = FALSE). There were issues with blank frame display in DVRRDK 3.5 in swms which have since been resolved. We want to check if you are seeing this issue or a different issue. Experimenting with tiler disable and providing the elementary stream will help us check this.

H.264 VISA is giving two infos when playing the stream; "mb_qp_delta is out of range", "An unintentional loss of pictures occurs".

For making decPrm.DecLink_ChCreateParams.tilerEnable = FALSE; I am using MCFW. Is there an equavalent parameter in the VDEC_PARAMS_S structure?

Honestly, I believe my stream is erroneous. H.264 VISA somehow handle it but 8168 decoder cannot. I am working on to producing a correct stream.

To disable tiler modify /dvr_rdk/mcfw/src_linux/mcfw_api/usecases/ti816x/multich_progressive_vcap_venc_vdec_vdis.c

decPrm.chCreateParams[i].tilerEnable = FALSE.

The stream you shared shows macroblock artifacts and errors when played back with PC player like VLC/Elecard so looks like stream really has bitstream errors.

Dear Badri,

I changed the tilerEnable from true to false. But nothing changed escept the picture on the screen changed from tileron.png(above) to tileroff.png(below); (left channel is from decoder while right from capture). But now I am certain about my stream is correct. Because I take it by openRTSP and validated with H264visa. And also I discover an other symptom. When the file is starting with an I-frame decoder fails with the first run and working in the second run. But if the file is not started with an I-frame the decoder always failing.

Application should always start with IDR frame when decoding. The pitch looks wrong. Can you share the full console logs from start of application.Also attach the h264 stream you are feeding to decoder.

My streamer(IP camera,dahua) is not starting streaming with I-frame. My own client code was arranging the output file as it starts with IDR. But openRTSP saves what it sees..

But on the other hand this doesn't explain the situation of the failing at the first run and running at the second with a file starting with IDR.

Hi,

Stream dataX_withIDR.frm shared, plays fine with decode display demo of RDK. The stream has few errors, for which error concealment is applied by the decoder. No other issues with playback are observed at our end.

From the logs attached,it can be seen that tiler is still enabled. Please disable tiler and check if you still see the issue. Steps for disabling tiler are mentioned in previous post by Badri.

I disabled the tiler but there was no progress except the pictures I send at the previous posts. Since I didn't see any progress, I returned to the original form which is tiler ON. But if you suggest always working with tiler OFF, I can do.

What is the situation about the dataX_withoutIDR.frm? Can you decode it? Because this stream is produced by openRTSP. It can be decoded by H264Visa correctly. H264Visa reports no error.

(The other one is produced by my own code which is very poor on network socket processing and missing some packets (that is why we see errors on the stream))

Which version of RDK are you using?

We are using DVRRDK 4.1. We will check the non-IDR stream. Are you seeing similar behavior with SWMS0 showing 1x1 layout instead of 2x2.Continue to test with tiler disabled and share the logs for 1x1 layout.

Hi,

With RDK decode_display demo, we are able to decode dataX_withoutIDR.frm stream without any issues. The stream has fewer errors compared to dataX_withIDR.frm. No other issues were observed while decoding the stream.

Hi,

I disabled tiler.

I see the similar behaviour with 1x1.

I also test with decode_display demo. The demo didn't work at the first run. But when I changed the display layout on the fly (with using the menu options) it is working. The case is the same for both two streams.

I think the problem is coming from my 3.50 version. Because the only difference is the versions of DVRRDK. I get the 4.1 version from my local FAE. I will try the same things with it and post you the results.

Hi,

I tried 4.1.00.02 version. Both streams are decoding with the demo code. I didn't try my own code yet. Because some of the mcfw structures are different. I have to modify the code.

But it seems, the problem solved with newest DVRRDK since the demo code is working well.

By the way I have seen a new package named DVRRDK_04_01_00_02/dvr_rdk/dvrapp/ti816x_nvr.

It is a big happiness for me to see such a package named ti816x_nvr in it

But I have an issue about compilation of the package.

"make nvrapp_all" gives the error;
avServerMainThr.c:3:26: fatal error: wis-streamer.h: No such file or directory

I searched the file and there is no file like that in the package.

Then I disabled the "#include <wis-streamer.h>" line avServerMainThr.c at line 3 for seeing what is next. Then it gives a lot of errors about "rtsp_object_t"
Some of them are;

app_rtsprx.c:407:86: error: 'rtsp_object_t' has no member named 'isFirstFrameBuffer'

app_rtsprx.c:421:91: error: 'rtsp_object_t' has no member named 'origReadVidBuf'
app_rtsprx.c:423:41: error: 'rtsp_object_t' has no member named 'isFirstFrameBuffer'
app_rtsprx.c:431:41: error: 'rtsp_object_t' has no member named 'origReadVidBuf'
app_rtsprx.c:431:82: error: 'rtsp_object_t' has no member named 'osaFirstReadVidBuf'
app_rtsprx.c:433:41: error: 'rtsp_object_t' has no member named 'origReadVidBuf'"

I searched the package for the rtsp_object_t. It is defined in the live555/netra_client/open_RTSP.h and there is no such members as it says.

Am I missing something?

Hi,

Please confirm that you have following directories in your 'dvr_rdk' folder of your build system.

dvrapp

module

wis-streamer.h file and rtsp_object_t definition are part of module folder. If the folder , or some files from the folder are missing the build will throw these errors.

Please extract the NVR package completely and test the build again.

Hi,

wis-streamer.h is inside module/live555/netra_streamer_nvr, which is missing in your code base. Your code base has some folders missing. Please get the complete source code; the code builds without any issues.

NVRSOURCE is a separate package. Did you get NVRSOURCE_04.00.00.03.tar.lzma along with the DVRRDK release from the FAE .Pls refer this thread for additional details

Hi,

Finally I get the packages from my FAE. Honestly this "Get the package from your local FAE" thing worth me bigger than one week. I hope TI will find a more practical way to distribute these packages.

After all, I did the page 26 at DM81xx_DVR_RDK_Install_Guide.pdf.

dvrapp and nvrapp are compiled with no fault. dvrapp also working fine. But there is an issue on nvrapp. I cannot see the gui on the screen. Only black screen. It seems there is a transparency issue on qt. I believe qt gui is lying on the background but some non-transparent black screen is laying on that. May be a FB driver issue or am I missing something?

Hi,

I cannot get any response for the above question. But I noticed in DVRRDK_04_01_00_02's DM81xx_DVR_RDK_Qt_installation_Guidelines.pdf you say;

"Download the Open Source LGPL version of Qt libraries 4.6.2 (qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.6.2.tar.gz) for
embedded Linux on website [1]"

But in DVR_RDK_03.50.00.08's DM8168_DVR_Qt_Install_Guide-doc.pdf you say;

"Download the Open Source LGPL version of Qt libraries 4.8.1 (qt-everywhere-
opensource-src-4.8.1.tar.gz) for embedded Linux on website"

It is a bit weird to pointing an older version of QT in a newer version of DVRRDK.

What am I suppose to do? Should I uninstall my qt 4.8 version and install this older one? Is the above problem could be related to this?

Hi,

I have similar issue to the one described here for some long time now.

I can playback stream only if it start with I-frame. Otherwise - it fails. I am also using DVRRDK 04.01.00.02.

I added for all this time a workaroung which on start decoding wait for the first I-frame. But I think it is not the correct way of solving this issue (will it work on decoding from stream , not sure !)

Can anyone please advise ?
