am335x display selection

Dear all,

  we are choosing a display for our custom board based on am335x.

We'd like to use the one on the starterkit (newhaven)  in the 7'' version BUT our hardware developers think that is not the best solution because it is a 24 pin display and it is obsolete.

They want to use a 7'' 800x480 RGB display driven with 18 lines in the 5/6/5 configuration.

Could this second choise work? Does it needs some kernel development? What are the steps required to make it works?

    Hi Giuseppe,

    For an 18-bit display it would be better to use the LCD controller in 24-bit mode and leave the 2 least senior bits of each color unconnected from the Am335X. As for software, I'm not an expert but you won't need to develop software, just configure existing drivers for your display.
