OMAPL138 and smsc9500 interface problem in QNX

Hi Ajay/Ravi,

I am using OMAPL138 chip for our project.

For USB0 (USB2.0) we have connected smsc9500 and we are using QNX.

USB0 and smsc9500 interface is working fine for normal ping and data connection.

But when we bombard the smsc9500 Ethernet port with UDP packets of size more than 1500 Bytes continuously without pause  cpu usage is going 100% and QNX freezes all its operation. If we stop bombarding of UDP packets, then QNX start working smoothly.

In QNX, io-net and io-usb is taking full CPU time.

smsc9500 is working fine with EHCI interface on panda board and for above test it is taking 1% of CPU usage.

Have you tried above test on OMAPL138 Linux environment?

your post say that EHCI and MUSB  can be used for smsc9500, What is the EHCI and MUSB speed support? are they same?(If speed is same then On QNX smsc9500 should work)

OMAPL138 document I've not seen any MUSB info, but for USB1 USB1.1 I've seen OHCI info. Let us know more info on MUSB with respect to OMAPL138.

    Is the test result is from linux or QNX ?

    Have you tried above test on OMAPL138 Linux environment?

    In my opinion, It would be good, If you can boot your OMAPL138 board (EVM or custom) and try it work with SMSC, then please update us if any  issues.

    I'm not sure about QNX behavior but you can try it in linux, We will assist you if you have any problem (USB 2.0 controller specific).

    For USB1.1, OHCI interface has been used.

    For USB2.0, MUSB & TI INVENTRA controller interface has been used.

    Please refer the chapter 35 of OMAPL138 TRM (page no 1590) for USB2.0

  • Panda Board is tested for QNX. Here we have tested ehci QNX driver+smsc9500 successfully in stressed/Regress condition.

    But on the QNX OMAPL138 board. Here MUSB or OHCI driver of QNX + smsc9500 is not working for Regress/stressed condition.

    so let us know, What is the difference between EHCI and MBUS? (Performance wise, speed wise) why the QNX  driver is having performance issue for OMAPL138 QNX driver, but ehci QNX driver is working fine.

    Also send me the link of "OMAPL138 TRM" and "difference related to MUSB/TI INVENTRA controller"

    In the same forum post, if you look at the left most column with heading "OMAPL Document resources", you will find the OMAPLL138 TRM.
