OMAP4460 & Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy support

Good day,

I’m currently looking for a “quick” solution to support Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy using an OMAP4460.

I am using the phyCore-OMAP4460 board with Linux 3.4.41 provided by TI’s PD13.1.0 release.

At first glance, I thought about using Bluez but it seems I need a more recent kernel to support BLE. On the other hand, some chips (such as the TI CC2564) already incorporate a bluetooth stack inside them.

What would be best ?

Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated…

The appropriate Bluetooth chip for your use case is WL1271 - http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/wl1271-tiwi-ble.pdf

This device is used in most OMAP4 boards.

The drivers for WL127x are available in Linux/Android releases for OMAP4.

Do I need specific a specific version of Bluez to support BLE ?

It seems I may need a more recent kernel or some Bluez back-porting to support BLE according to this post:

- BlueZ - Bluetooth protocol stack for Linux. If you must use WILINK8, please follow the thread, which you posted.

You can obtain the source code and demos for WILINK 8 through the link - http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_WL8_release_download_page
However, you must integrate WILINK8 for OMAP4.

The official support of Bluetooth driver for OMAP4 is in - http://www.omappedia.com/wiki/4AJ.2.2_OMAP4_Jelly_Bean_Release_Notes

I notice that - The NLCP WLAN driver is based on the Linux mac80211 architecture, available as part of the Linux kernel. TI's WLAN driver is named wl12xx and it is already part of the mainline Linux kernel.
