Query on Linux File system

Hi Experts,

The SDK pre-built image I had downloaded contains boot loader, kernel image and root file systems. The boot loader and kernel image comes around less than 4 MB. The root fs contains all the required application exe's and library files.

What is the actual use of the root fs and how it can be stripped down to very less size ?

Is root fs generated during kernel compilation ?

We can use any size of rootfs and it is depends on your requirement.

ex:

1MB,4MB,80Mb,200MB.....etc.,

Is root fs generated during kernel compilation ?

by default, No.

If we want to build it , yes that is also possible.(initram)

Can you point me to some articles on how to configure the rootfs and set of options involved in it so that it could be bare minimal ?

Hi Lyf,

You can find in downloaded SDK that name called "ramdisk" or "initramfs" which has minimal rootfs.

Also, you can search in our TI wikis or TI E2E posts or internet to find the answers for the generic questions.
