Can I use so-dimm SDRAM with No ECC ??

Hello

I have a XTCIEVMk2X EVM Board. and I wan to use new so-dimm SDRAM with no ECC.

I had to exchange so-dimm SDRAM from basically provided SDRAM to ordinary SDRAM using lap top

but I can't see kernel message because U-BOOT is no running.

U-BOOT have new error message, "DDR Leveling Error Detected!"

Can I use this SDRAM??

Hi Shin,

As for as I know, this is expected behavior. The DDR3 controller should be initialized with correct values before use them.

The EVM supports only SO-DIMM with ECC.

Thank you for your answer. I solve my doubt. but I face another problem

I have to design M-TCA board with KeystoneII architecture. as you know, M-TCA is very small. so I have to remove DDR3 ECC chip.(another reason DDR3 chip is very expensive :) )

Must It has DDR3 ECC chip in Keystone2 architecture??

If it remove ECC chip. what I doing something??

Hello Shin,

Yes, You can do DDR design without ECC chip. Please find below the supported topologies for K2H DDR3 interface.

When you are doing Non-ECC design, the ECC related pins in DDR controller should be left floating. Also please ensure that ECC_EN bit is disabled (default) in ECC register.
