Hello,

We bought the AM335x EVM and WL1835MOD wifi/bluetooth module and also got the SDK7.0 binaries and Bluetopia SW loaded on the platform. When booting I notice in the startup sequence a message: PM: Loading am335x-pm-firmware.bin. Later after 60 seconds (a timeout lapse) I see: PM: request_firmware failed

I do have the am335x-pm-firmware.bin saved in the /lib/firmware directory of the root file system. A strange (maybe unrelated) side affect is that the wlcore kernel module won't kick-off until after the PM error message finally prints.

Any ideas of what might be causing the request_firmware from being carried out?

Hi Michael,

This is strange. Do you see the same when booting a "clean" kernel (without any SW additions)?

Hi Biser,

I do not have the problem when running the original SDK-7.0 binaries. On my 2nd system where I have most of my source S/W coming from <git.ti.com/ti-linux-kernel/ti-linux-kernel/commits/ti-linux-3.12.y> plus the TI patches and built on our development platform, I see the problem. I see the PM S/W is located in the ~/arch/arm/mach-omap2 directory.

I'm sorry, I cannot help on this. 3.12.y isn't supported by TI. You could ask the community at http://beagleboard.org/Community/Forums

I don't understand. Isn't the support for the AMsdk7.0 which supports the am335x-evm based on Linux3.12?

The source that is in the <am335x-evm-sdk-src-07.00.00.00.tar.gz> that the WL18xx AMxxx platform integration guide says to start with, is based on linux-3.12, right?

SDK 7.0 is based on kernel 3.12.10.

Ok - I see. Let's start over. What I was trying to say is that I have the Am335x-Evm platform. With that platform I am running two difference S/W systems: System 1 comes with the pre-built binaries available in the SDK-7.0. System 2 is being built by me using the source found in 3.12.10 plus TI patches recommended in the WL18xx AMxxx platform ntegration guide. (It tells you how to build from source.)

Now System 1 exhibits NO PM problems - it works fine. The PM firmware gets loaded and is running within 8 seconds after boot. No problems.

System 2 has the firmware loaded but it times out after 60 seconds and so this is NOT working. So that is where I am seeking help to determine what is missing/ different .

Where is the root filesystem you are using from? Is udev present or something else similar? The kernel depends on udev to automatically load the firmware once the root filesystem is mounted because the firmware is requested before it's actually available. If you are unable to do this you could also try building the firmware into the kernel, place it in the firmware/ directory of your linux source tree and then under "menuconfig > Device Drivers > Generic Driver Options > External firmware blobs to build into the kernel binary" you can add am335x-pm-firmware.bin so that when the firmware is requested it is available regardless of rootfs status.
