pipelines and hdvpss - general question

Guru 20755 points

Hello,

I have some general question.

in http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DM814X_AM387X_VPSS_Video_Driver_User_Guide it says:

"Video Processing Sub-System hardware integrates theee graphics pipeline, five video pipelines, two capture ports and 4 video compositors. Video compositors are connected to four VENCs to support various output format and mode."

What is the meaning of graphic pipelins and video pipelines in terms of hdvpss components ? Is such pipeline referse to complete routing from capture to display or to some specific compoenent in hdvpss ?

Thanks

Ran

From the HW side, see DM814x TRM, chapter 12 HDVPSS and DM814x datasheet, 8.10 High-Definition Video Processing Subsystem (HDVPSS)

  • Hi Pavel,

    Thanks,

The TRM says that there are 3 graphic pipeline (the term graphics pipeline actually refers to the graphic plane - and without display and encoder components) , and 2 video pipeline (the term video pipeline actually refers to the primary and auxilary path - and  without display and encoder components).

The number of video/graphics pipeline in PDP VPSS guide is different for some reason from the above.
